Asus EEE PC will have 3 segments: Ultimate, PRO Fasion and Casual

According to the Engadget,

Asus will soon be offering around 23 models(!) for the consumers.

  • Ultimate: Slim and Light:: These would bring in great competition to the MacBook Air and Lenovo U110, both of which fall in this category
  • PRO Fashion: Precise, Mature and Fancy Touch:: This basically includes some variants of the EEE PC 1000. However, T101 is new there and nothing is known about it
  • Casual: Young, Vivid and Eye Catchy::This includes what we have at the moment. It includes 700 series; 900 series and 1000 series. So, nothing new here? Yes, there is. It talks about the hard-disk version of the 700 series and 30GB SSD version of the 900 series

Personally, I’m looking forward to hear more about S101 and S91. I want to know what is the ultimate range all about. I hope it does not come up as fluke as iMate Ultimate range. Anyone remember all the promises they made and what they came out nearly 2 years later!?

Installing or Upgrading RAM in the ASUS EEE PC

The 700s(this includes 700 and 701) come with just 512MB of RAM. You may wish to upgrade the RAM in near future especially if you are using XP on it.

Let me clear facts about the RAMs before we install a new RAM module in ASUS EEE PC 700:

  • The RAM in 8G vesion is not upgradable
  • 2G-Surf versions are not upgradable as the RAM is soldered
  • Black 4G-surf versions have RAM access cover. White ones don’t have it
  • Warranty won’t get void if you do a RAM upgrade
  • ASUS won’t be responsible if anything goes wrong when you’re doing a RAM upgrade
  • In Xandros(with which it actually comes with) is hard-coded to recognize upto 1GB of RAM
  • So even if you put in a 2G RAM module, only 1GB will be visible in Xandros

Here are the pictures:

1) Carefully remove the “ASUS” sticker from the RAM access door*. Put it somewhere else so that you can put it again later on incase you want to send it back to Asus in case of some problem.

2) Remove the screws. Take extra care of the ‘holders’ of the RAM chip.

3) Gently, remove the RAM

4) Put in a new RAM. Make sure the holders are correctly placed

Google Sky hiding something from us. What could that be?

Google Sky is an application which lets you take a look at the sky above. It is something like having a powerful telescope in your computer.

When I heard this news which is about Google sky, I thought the writer must be kidding. I surmised why would the Google do that? Well, I decided to find it out myself. Go to 5h 53m 27s, -6 10′ 58″.

“Pictures speak louder than the words”. Right? Anyway, what can it be? Planet X is what comes to my mind.

*I was on the EEE PC at that time and that is the reason forĀ  the 800 x 480 resolution.

Nokia E71 review

Let me first admit, I’m a DIE-HARD windows mobile fan. But, when I was asked to do a review of Nokia E71, I first thought of passing it to one of the team-members. Later on, I thought that this looks like an interesting device. It is thin, elegant and has a lot of great features.

Just a few days ago, I’d done a big review of Palm Centro, which also had a similar design. The only physical difference is the lack of touch-screen in Nokia E71. But, the Nokia E71 is way superior device. Let’s see:

Nokia E71 review

The way I would describe E71 as “just put the Nokia E61 on a low-carb diet and after some days, you will get E71!”. Pretty funny but now you got an idea of how slim it is.

Let’s acutally see how slim it is:

Ergonomics and Usability

The device has curvy body now unlike it’s predecessor E61, which was quite boxy. The device has a nice QWERTY keypad which I found to be very usable. The device is very small when compared to Nokia E61. People with small hands who used to have trouble using the E61 with one hand will love this as the width of the E71(57mm) is considerably smaller than the E61(69.7mm)

Steps:

  1. Go to Menu(right soft key)
  2. Tools>Options
  3. Go to Appointments tab
  4. Here you can click on the bell, reoccurring symbol, note, home, location and attendees

Please note that these icons can be seen in both day and agenda view.

New Specs, New Pictures of FUJITSU U2010

A Vietnamese forum has come up with more pictures and specifications for the Fujitsu U1010.

Rumored Specifications of the Fujitsu U2010:

CPU: Intel Atom 1.6Ghz 1.8Ghz
Screen Size: 5″6
Resolution: 1024×768
HDD: 80Gb
RAM: 1Gb
OS: Vista Business
Communications: 3G, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth
Weight: 680gm
Expected price: US $1300

According to me, the best improvement is the keyboard, which is now “Vaio/Macbook” style. Another great improvement is the more standard resolution (1024 x 768).Price has increased by 80gm, but it comes with built-in 3G and GPS. But, still 1GB RAM. Why Fujitsu, why?

But, look at that price tag. Ouch!
