To perform bootloader unlock on the Sony Xperia Z or ZL, you will need to download and install Fastboot files on your computer. The process is simple if you have a Windows 7 computer, but if you have a Windows 8, you will have to perform some extra steps in getting everything to work.
Only after unlocking the bootloader, you will be able to flash custom ROMs and root your Xperia ZL or Z phone. You will also be able to flash custom Kernels. Also, Sony gives early previews of their upcoming firmwares to those with unlocked bootloaders. Before you start, follow these steps.

While both Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are identical hardware-wise, the steps on how to root the Sony Xperia ZL are slightly different from its cousin. For the tech folks, the CF Auto root file that used to root Xperia Z has been modified to work with the Xperia ZL. So, here are the instructions on how to root the Xperia ZL.
Folks at xda have released CWM recovery for the Sony Xperia ZL with locked bootloaders. As expected, everything is working like a charm and there are no ill-effects of flashing this CWM (clock work mod) recovery on the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will soon hit the market shelves but until now, we have only seen it in white. The new pics from phonearena clearly indicate that the tablet will also be released in Charcoal black color.
