Nokia Lumia 530 Review, Quality Quad Core Smartphone

Nokia Lumia 530 Review

Nokia Lumia 530 review summary

The Nokia Lumia 530 is an excellent entry level phone from Microsoft and it is mighty impressive for what it does and costs. While there are few things the Nokia Lumia 530 could do a lot better but we feel it does a lot for little money.

Pros and cons of Nokia Lumia 530

+ Great value for money
+ Excellent performance
+ Good battery life

– Low built in storage – you must have a micro SD card to make most of it
– No front facing camera
– No 4G LTE model.

Full Review of Nokia Lumia 530 and its specifications

After success of Lumia 520, it appears that Nokia has struck gold with the Lumia 530. The phone is equipped with everything that is required to outsell every single windows phone released till date and other smartphones in the below 100 euro range.

Windows Phone runs amazingly well on low end hardware and it totally flies on the Lumia 530 thanks to the quad core Snapdragon 200 processor. Phones in this range lag as they Android which is a bloated operating system.

It is safe to say that Nokia is back with the Lumia 530 in the budget smartphone game and will strike lightning twice with it.

Nokia Lumia 530 – Power for the people

Display

The 530 comes with a 4 inch display packing the same number pixels as the Lumia 630 but since the display is smaller than 630, PPI is 245 which makes it look very sharp.

In comparison the high 4” iPhone 5S packs 960×540 so 854×480 pixels don’t look bad on a 4 inch screen. However the screen quality is bog standard LCD type and not IPS like the one on iPhone.

Nevertheless it is much better than the phones in its class.

Design and Build Quality

From a 5 meter display you will easily be able to identify 530 as a Lumia. The back cover is removable and Nokia offers them in variety of colors.

It weighs a modest 129 grams and it feels just right in hands.  It measures 119.7 x 62.3 x 11.7mm and feels compact in hands.

Performance and Gaming

The phone comes with a quad core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor by Qualcomm which brings almost lag-free experience to the end user.

For many 512MB sound too low but since it runs windows phone OS which is super optimized for such hardware, you will find it quite nippy. In fact you would be able to run a CPU intensive game like Halo on it without any lag. We ran it and were pleased with the results.

In other words you will never feel like you are using the cheapest windows phone in the market.

Battery and storage

It comes with a 1430 battery that gives you a full day of good use. The battery runtimes are better than the Lumia 520 thanks to more optimized OS and processor.

Built-in 4GB Storage could have been a big problem if it did not come with WP8.1 but since WP 8.1 lets you move application and games to micro SD card, you can easily overcome this problem by using a good class 10 card.

Camera and Video quality

We really did not want to discuss the camera quality of a budget phone because we thought it would be unfair.

Let us keep it short and simple – it is disappointing because it has fixed focus and thus the photos do not turn out super crisp. However they do seem to do an “ok” job for Facebook and Twitter.

The 530 is the first windows phone that is incapable of recording 720p videos. That said it can perfectly play them back.

Verdict – Lumia 530 is more capable than you think

Yes you read that right. While the phone is not impressive the storage and camera department, it offers a very compelling package in areas like performance, gaming, expandability and display.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Specifications, brings metal frame to lineup

After myriad rumors and leaks Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy Alpha. Sammy wants to make a style statement with their new phone as it is the company’s first model to feature a metal frame with a soft back cover.

We also have the specifications of Galaxy Alpha and they certainly do look pretty damn good.

You get an octa core Exynos 1.8GHz or a quad core Snapdragon 2.5GHz processor, 2 gigabytes of onboard memory, 32 giga bytes of flash storage, twelve megapixel rear camera and a 2.1 MP front facing camera for shooting selfies.

You also get NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The only drawback we see is lack of expandable storage which has is a common feature on Samsung Android phones.

    HP Slate 12 Pro Specifications, 12 inch Android tablet on the way

    HP is all set to launch a large Android tablet with 12.5 inch display. We discovered it on a GFXbench website which is a benchmark site containing scores of device’s processor. While full concrete HP Slate 12 Pro specifications are not yet available we do know something.

    Here are the specifications of HP Slate 12 Pro tablet.

    * 12.5 inch display with 5 finger gesture support
    * 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution
    * Android 4.4.2 kitkat operating system

    * 2 gigabytes of RAM
    * Support for Open GL ES 3.0

    We do not have its pricing details but it will probably be a lot cheaper than Samsung’s Note Pro, so many will probably be my next buy.

    Asus Zenphone 5 Review, best budget dual SIM Android Phone

    The Asus Zenfone 5 is one of few Intel x86 powered smartphones out there. The phone just like its siblings run on Atom Z2580 processor which coupled with light Asus Zen UI promised lag free Android experience. It thus feels zipper than the Galaxy S4 which has a heavy UI comparatively.

    Asus Zenfone 5 Review

    Like almost any other Android phone you get some bloatware which is not uninstall-able. Yes you can go into settings and disable them but an average Joe will not be able to figure that out. We adore how you can uninstall anything on Windows Phone and we wish we would uninstall third party apps like Amazon Kindle, Movie Studio, Omlet and so on. Fortunately they don’t make the device laggy.

    We love how the Asus Zenfone 5 feels in the hands. Its curved back fits just perfect in my palm. The back is matte and overall design is elegant and stylish.

    Back of Asus Zenfone 5

    The volume keys and power button have unique texture to it. We felt great every time we picked the unit to play with it.

    The display is 5 inch diagonally and packs HD resolution. Being IPS it is very bright and boasts excellent viewing angels. It is very bright too and we had no problems using it in the sun.

    Speakers on the back are fine for notifications and phone calls but loud enough for sharing a YouTube video with the person sitting next to you. We recommend using an external speaker or earphones if you are going to listen to a song or video with your friend sitting on your side.

    Side of Asus Zenfone 5

    There is a notification bar just like any other Android phone but you must tap on the little top right icon to see your unseen notifications. It took us a while to find that out. Asus should play a tutorial about it the first time user uses notification panel.

    Just a suggestion, immediately remove the weather widget from your home screen as it ships quite a lot of battery for some reason.

    Bottom of Asus Zenfone 5

    Its battery life is good enough for a busy work day. My work requires me to have Internet on 24×7 and I am always connected to Wi-Fi or 3G at all times. I sent about 10 emails in a day; talked for around an hour; used it for half an hour as music player at gym and relaxed in the evening by watching videos on YouTube using my A2DP Bluetooth headset. By the end of the day I was left with 25% juice. Not bad at all. Just make sure to charge it everyday and you should be fine. I wish it was removable though.

    Camera takes excellent pictures. Color reproduction is at par with Galaxy S4 and Lumia 920. Here are few untouched photos that we uploaded on our Flickr account.

    Verdict: An excellent Android phone that offers lag free user experience.

    Pros:
    * Dual SIM functionality
    * Wonderful display
    * Sensitive touch screen
    * Responsive user interface and lag free Android skin
    * Expandable internal storage
    * Good battery life

    Cons:
    * Non removable battery
    * Bloatware not uninstall-able
    * Only 8GB built in storage
    * No NFC (near field communication)

    Celeron N2820 N2830 Benchmark and Passmark results are in

    Lately low cost laptops have got very popular especially those with the Windows with Bing OS as Microsoft is offering it with a lower price tag. Many of these cheap laptops, for instance Asus Chromebook C200 and C300 make use of Intel Celeron N2820 and N2830 processors respectively.

    The TDP of these processors is just 7.5 watts which is much lower than your typical thin laptops with 17 watt TDP (Intel Core i5-4200U, E5- 4210U or i5-4300U). But how do the new CPUs do in benchmarks? Let us see.

    The benchmark score of both N2820 and N2830 is 1000 in the passmark benchmark test.

    Both of these new CPUs are based on bay trail architecture and made using 22nm manufacturing process. Both support 64 bit operating systems and come with 1MB L2 cache.

    How to install WhatsApp on Nokia X and XL?

    Nokia X series devices are amazing but since they do not come preloaded with Play Store, there is no easy way to install WhatsApp.

    How to install WhatsApp on Nokia X and XL

    Fortunately it is not impossible as folks at NokiaViews have laid out instructions on how to install WhatsApp on Nokia X series devices including Nokia X, XL and X+.

    WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging client and has enjoyed immense success in densely populated countries like India, China, Brazil and Indonesia. People use it because it is free for one year and without ads.

    While it lacks voice calling unlike Viber, it is still regarded as must have as everyone already have it on their phone. There is no sticker support too but since it has become an indispensable application, people do not really care about what the WhatsApp lacks.
