ASUS P835 (beta) quick tour

Pda.pl were able to get their hands on the pre-production unit of the ASUS P835. They have done a quick overview of the hardware and the Glide Interface. Although, Asus seems to have change the glide interface quite a bit, but it looks quite sluggish. But, we are not complaining much as it is still a pre-production unit. Remember?

Not all Dell Mini 9s are same

It looks like that not all the Dell Mini 9s are same or shall I say “Dell has made an improvement”. The hinge of the old Dell Mini 9 (shown on the right) would not allow the screen to go back as the one shown on the left. The ability to go back more can provide better viewing angles in certain positions, say when you are standing.

My trusty ASUS EEE 1000H can go back a great deal, almost 160-deg or so. It is pity that the older Dell Mini 9’s hinge did not allow the users to let their screens go back as compared to the new Dell Mini 9’s hinge.

HTC releases ROM update for HTC DIAMOND

HTC has again released another ROM update for the HTC DIAMOND. Although, the last ROM update is just a month old, but they have rolled out another update. The new update does not promise any ground breaking improvements or adds any new features, but does some bug-fixes. Here is the description of the new ROM:

1. When you launch the Camera while the system is working on other programs, the preview screen may become black.
2. When playing a video, sometimes a portion of the video will be cut off a little bit.
3. Fixes Audio playback problem with the speaker. Specific issues: sometimes the music will turn off and on after 10 minutes, or there is a buzzing sound or no sound at all.
4. Fixes the problem of not being able to receive MMS when in standby mode.
5. When launching music via the Music tab on TouchFLO 3D, the sound may intermittently turn off for a second and come back on.

Usual warning: This is a generic update and will commit hard reset. So, you are requested to back up your precious data before performing the update

Loreda UNPC ad – Great ways of using UMPC

I do not think if it is a good idea to walk with a UMPC around your neck though.

Although I could not understand anything as it was all Chinese, but you can easily see the advantages of using UMPC as a mobile device. Also, one more thing is for sure: Chinese and Japanese people are more aware of the term UMPC than any other country in the world.

Also, since it comes with a 2600mAh battery, I doubt you can have all that fun throughout the day that they girl is having in the video.

Where is Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) in EEEbuntu? [Netbook]

If you have just installed the wonderful EEEbuntu, you will have a hard time figuring out the Super Hybrid Engine. The EEEbuntu does not come with SHE, but instead it comes with a SHE-equivalent, CPU FREQUENCY CONTROL.

Soon, after the installation, you may not be able to find it. Here are the steps to put it somewhere so that it is always accessible.

  • Right click on the Dock
  • Select Dock Preferences
  • Go to Applets
  • From the list, select CPU FREQUENCY Control
  • Click on the Activate button
  • Close

After adding it to the Dock, you can simply click on the the applet to change the CPU frequency. I recommend the onDemand profile which scales the CPU speed as per requirement
