Nokia allowing Android developers to use LiveSight Features

Nokia HERE services have gained a lot of popularity on Windows Phone and eventually became available on iOS and Android as well.

One of its best features is the LiveSight that allows you simply point your camera on the road and learn about the places in front of you.

The Finnish giant has now decided to expand its reach to Android users. The developers can now download HERE software development kit for the Android.

The kit allows devs to use LiveSight augmented reality feature on third party applications.

This is a smart move by Nokia as it make devs use their HERE services instead of Google Maps. Here is a quote from the blog.

These apps can be as similar to or different from the existing LiveSight uses as the developer wants. How about a ‘beer-finder’ app (for those emergency moments) that would lead you by the nose to the nearest watering hole? Or a virtual guide for a museum that would explain the sculptures around a garden when you hold up your phone? Or even a more business oriented app for electrical engineers that would show a street’s wiring?

While it will take some time for the developers to consider making applications that make use of this feature but a “beer finder” application sounds like a great idea.
