SONY customizes Bravia HDTV sets with new link modules
Sony Electronics today announced the availability of three new BRAVIA® Link modules including the Wireless Link, DVD Link, and Input Link. The new devices attach to the back of compatible BRAVIA HDTVs and integrate directly into the television’s menu system.
“Now you can customize compatible flat-panel BRAVIA HDTV sets with great features without reconfiguring your entire home theater set up,” said Jeff Goldstein, vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics. “Each link module conveniently integrates into the TV’s menu system for easy use while eliminating the need for another set top box, component, or remote control.”

Sony’s Wireless Link Module (DMX-WL1) is a two-piece system that wirelessly transmits high-definition video (up to 1080i) and audio to compatible BRAVIA TVs. The unit’s receiver attaches to the back of the TV and connects via an HDMI cable. The transmitter connects to up to five HD sources (four HDMI, one component) and transmits content up to 65 feet to the TV.
The transmitter is controlled via the included remote control which also controls the TV. It ships in October for about $800.

Intel ships 1.6GHz dual core Atom for ‘Nettops’ – Dual core ASUS EEE PC anyone?
The dual-core Intel® Atom™ Processor 330 features a 1.6GHz processing core, 1MB of level 2 cache, an 8W TDP and support for DDR2 667. The new processor is available as an integrated package and has been validated with the Intel® 945GC Express Chipset, featuring built-in Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Intel® High Definition Audio.
Currently, we have many nettop netbooks running Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor but it has only single core. People have reported it to be quite powerful than the Celeron 900, which powered the very popular ASUS EEE 70x series and ASUS EEE 900.
With the shipping of dual core Atom, are the Netbooks getting too powerful now? Believe it or not, my friend who has just bought an ASUS EEE 1000H is quite happy with the performance of Vista on it. The power management features of the Atom processor are excellent. And I’m very sure, the performance of dual core would even be better. I just hope the dual cores do not effect the battery life badly, if not increasing it.
Next week, I have some new EEE PC stuff coming and my HTC Diamond too will be arriving by this weekend. Stay tuned!
