HP brings 3G goodness to mini 1000

Gone are the days when we just wanted to take our computer with us. Now, we want to be always connected too. So far, most of the UMPCs have come with 3G/HSDPA in-built but very few netbook manufactures have come up with 3G-enabled netbook. HP has now included the option to add 3G to their current models.

But, the 3G radio is not going to come for cheap. It will add $199 to the price too! Click here to visit HP’s mini 1000 (official) page

Lenovo Ideapad S10e and its differences with the S10

It is like an open war in the netbook arena. And with the BIG player like Lenovo, the whole competition has just got tougher than ever. Lenovo came up with S10 sometime back, but the Lenovo S10e is actually little different than the original S10.

Folks at testfreaks.com have enlisted the differences between the S10 and S10e.

The ‘e’ in the Lenovo S10e stands for ‘education’. The core difference is that the S10e comes with QuickStart, which is actually Lenovo’s version of Splashtop. Splashtop offers TRUE instant-on experience. So, one can read news, chat, surf  the web without firing the usual OS like Windows XP or Vista.

The S10e is available not only with 80GB/160GB hard disk just like S10, but is also available with 4GB SSD(solid state drive), which is resistant to shocks (and thus can take more abuse than the Hard Disks). More RAM options have been provided on the S10e.

One more minor difference is the screen size. The screen of the S10e is 10.1″ compared to S10’s 10.2″ screen size.

HIS netbook = another re-branded MSI Wind

HIS is a graphic card manufacture that is going to jump into Netbook bandwagon. HIS is going to launch a netbook, which is actually a rebranded just-another-msi-wind-u100.

It is going to be released in India for price of around $400. I would not recommend to buy it as one can purchase the Wind U100 directly for the same price! Specs are same as Wind U100, but here they go again anyway: Continue reading “HIS netbook = another re-branded MSI Wind”

MSI WIND U100 in Red

When the Wind Netbook was released earlier this year, it took the market by storm and delivered exactly what many users wanted in mobile computing. The new Cherry Red U100 symbolizes passion and nobility. When you carry it with you, you will feel energized all day long and become the center of attraction. Weighing just 1kg, the U100 has a 10″ widescreen display, 160GB of storage, a long-life 6-cell battery as well as support for 802.11 b/g/n wireless networking and Bluetooth interface. These together with the large keyboard make the U100 the best choice for mobility.

ASUS EEE 1000H vs S101 comparison

A lot of people in the 10″ netbook market are confused between ASUS EEE 1000H and S101 netbooks. They’ve quite similar specifications, but still the S101 beats the 1000H in terms of price by (huge) $200. What makes the S101 costs $200 more than the 1000H? Folks at laptops-tech.com were able to get their hands-on both of the units at the same time.

Here are few highlights of the article:

  • Upgradability: EEE 1000H wins the battle. SSD is not upgradable in S101. Only RAM and wifi card is upgradeable
  • Performance: SSD in the S101 is quicker than the HDD in EEE 1000H. Booting is faster in S101 than the already pretty quick booting of the 1000H (nearly 26s)
  • Storage space: 1000H comes with 160GB HDD. S101 comes with 16GB SSD. If you hate moving parts, then you’ve no choice but S101. Otherwise, if you store a lot of data, movies etc, then EEE 1000H is the way to go
  • S101 is much slimmer and lighter than EEE 1000H
  • Both have almost same battery life
