Fujitsu M2010 Netbook – just a drawing of some random netbook?

A forum member at UMPCfever has posted a hand drawn picture of a new mysterious netbook from Fujitsu. It has been named M2010 and will be unveiled in the month of July (2009). By the looks of it, it seems to have a 10-inch screen. But, the netbook in that picture looks like any other netbook in the market. If you ask me, it looks more like EEE 1000H or EEE 901 with smaller touchpad. The month of July is not far away and if you ask me, it will be too for difficult for Fujitsu to leak just hand drawings to the world before its launch.

Windows 7 is going to increase NAND flash memory demand – yes, it is a more SSD friendly OS

Windows XP is already more than half-decade old now. At that time NAND based SSDs were not sold that openly in the consumer market. That is the reason the users are not able to make the most of the capabilities of the SSDs while running Windows XP. Unfortunately, the Vista also is not optimized for the SSDs. Actually, the Vista thrashes the disk even more than the XP making it even less ideal for SSDs.

Oops! The Lenovo’s rumored netbook was just a concept

The Lenovo's rumored netbook was just a concept

Few days back, we posted about the Lenovo’s super-widescreen netbook, now being rumored over the Tech websites as “Pocket Yoga”. Folks at PCmag contacted the Lenovo and they told them that

It’s a design concept and may not even ship in China.

So, it was just a concept to see the outcome of fusion of smartphone and netbook. Thankfully, that-ultra-widescreen-netbook with odd display ratio will never hit the markets.

VIA Surfboard C855 supports 1080p playback!

VIA has unveiled a new mainboard reference design for netbook. It will come with 1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor with a 800MHZ FSB. But that alone is not the reason for the HD playback. It has the VIA’s Chrome9 graphics with support for hardware H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9 decoding that let it decode the HD videos. It supports resolution up to 1366×768 and external display resolutions of up to 1920 x 1440. It also has support for wifi, BT and GPS.

Th VIA Chrome 9 GPU will allow a machine to decode the HD video with less 40% CPU use. Surely, they are going to give the Intel Atom, some tough competition.

Looks like a lot of netbook manufacturers are now finally focusing on improving the battery life. Doraemon Netbook by Kurokids

A Taiwanese company named KuroKids have released a netbook named after a Japanese cartoon character, Doraemon. Hardware-wise, it is based on Intel’s classmate PC. It comes with a familiar Windows XP OS and will cost you around $500.

That is a pretty expensive price for an OLPC-based netbook though.

ASUS EEE keyboard specs unveiled

Alright, we somehow missed this news. From the outside, it may look like just another keyboard, but it packs in much more than just a keyboard. They were able to squeeze in an Atom N270 processor, 5-inch 800×480 pixel screen, 16GB SSD, 1GB RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth and even USB 2.0 ports. I’m still wondering how the ASUS was able to put in so much under a keyboard. But how would your desktop look with the wires coming out from the keyboard? Odd.

Toshiba netbooks to enter US market later this year

Although Toshiba’s netbook NB100 is currently available in Europe and South America, Toshiba is yet to launch a netbook in the US  market. Rumor has it that instead of launching the now-old NB100, it will launch a completely new product. Nothing about its specifications has been revealed so far. Patrick Mani of Toshiba says

You know us: We won’t be the least expensive out there and we won’t be the most expensive.

We all know that Toshiba is not going to take the US market lightly. However, it will be interesting to see what Toshiba comes up with later this year
