Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for US now available

Nokia is rolling out 5800 XpressMusic in the US with 3G support. Of course, the support for the US bands is there. Now, here is the odd thing. Where is the carrier logo? May be Nokia has plans to make them available unlocked. So those folks who wish to pick one up, be very prepared for a huge price tag. But, then look at the brighter side, that will be one time payment and you will be free to choose the carrier you want to be on.

The best part about it is the 3.2″ 640 x 360 resolution display. This is not up to the par of one of those new Windows Mobile devices like the new HTC TOUCH HD and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, but it is not shabby too. Nokia is even bundling 8GB micro-SD card to make the whole package even attractive.

SeeqPod for Windows Mobile released and reviewed!

Download it for free only for today (Dec 21, 2008)

SeeqPod is a notorious application for Windows Mobile, which was so far available for the Desktop PC only. What this application does is that it finds the music from all over the Internet and streams it in a very sleek and user-friendly interface. Does it works? Yeah!

Installation

You have two ways to download it:

  • point your IE mobile web browser on your device to http://seeqpod.com and you will be taken to the download page. Note that you must be using the default browser string in order for the seeqpod website to know that you are on a mobile browser.
  • get the installation link via email

When you start the application, it gives you a nice list of songs from all genres. I selected “2008 singles of the year” and it loaded them to the playlist. It also comes with a nifty search function. This is the most powerful function of this software. I searched for my all time favorite “Rev Theory” and I was impressed with the results. You can learn more about the artist/music group as it also enlists the related wikipedia article. The article opens in IE mobile and loads the respective wikipedia webpage.

Note that all the screenshots are done in VGA. You may click on them to view the full resolution screenshot.

It also comes with a very finger friendly music player. The player is skinnable and colors are also changeable. Continue reading “SeeqPod for Windows Mobile released and reviewed!”

Not now, but by second quarter of next year(2009). Samsung will be introducing an Android phone in the US market. Last year was the year for iPhone. Paul at Modaco has made a custom ROM in which he has integrated IE mobile 6. Though Microsoft said that the IE mobile 6 won’t be available as separate download for the current devices, ROM cookers have found ways of streamlining it inside the ROM itself.

Quick Look: Introducing the Palm Store – do not get too excited

Well, we definitely wanted it to be one to rival the Apple’s App Store. Sadly, this is not the case here. When I heard the “Palm Store” word a couple of days ago, I thought finally in Windows Mobile world, somebody has done something which should have been done a long time back.

Installation

It certainly rose my hopes a lot when I downloaded the 1.1MB exe from Palm’s website. I executed it on my PC and it installed a TINY 28KB application on my HTC Diamond. It obviously made me wondered how could Palm integrate the whole application in a tiny 28KB CAB file!

Alright, it installed it on my device and it looked very promising especially with that cart icon. I still had a lot of hopes with the 28KB application :)

Toshiba introduces 512GB SSD

Toshiba becomes the first country to introduce the first Industry’s 512GB solid state drive. This NAND based flash storage is a standard 2.5″ drive based on 43nm MLC. It supports excellent read speeds of 240MBps and write speeds of 200MBps! The drives comes with AES encryption, which improves data protection. Wow! Time is changing at a speedy rate. Who knew that we would see the news of 512GB SSD so soon considering the fact I’m still running 4GB SSD in my 8month old EEE 701.

Dell mini 12 now comes with Windows XP and Ubuntu option

Until now we knew that the Dell’s Inspiron Mini 12 came only with Windows Vista Basic. This was not a nice thing to do on Dell’s part as not everyone is a fan of Windows Vista Netbook. Looks like Dell has listen to the people’s wants and has now made available the Mini 12 in both Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04.1.

As for pricing, the Ubuntu-based model is available at  $499 while the Windows XP is priced at $549.

This is a great news as I’m not myself a big fan of running Vista on such a weak 12″ netbook especially the Vista Basic which does not have the Aero Engine. Windows XP is a great performer on the netbooks. Wise move Dell!
