Kinoma Play released for Windows mobile smartphone

With Kinoma Play, smartphones now have digital media capabilities that meet, and sometimes even exceed, what users can do on their personal computers. Kinoma Play goes beyond organizing and playing a user’s video, audio and picture files, by bringing in media from around the Internet through the built-in Kinoma Guide, the most comprehensive catalog of the freshest, most diverse mobile media available.

Among the key innovations in Kinoma Play:

  • Streaming podcasts – Instead of tediously downloading and syncing, podcasts stream on-demand, so users are always up to date
  • “Media First” user interface – User interface elements all-but-disappear when viewing photos, listening to music, or watching video to keep the focus on the media
  • High quality YouTube – Kinoma Play provides high quality YouTube video by playing the same feeds delivered to your PC, when bandwidth permits
  • Integrated search – Search your phone, your home PC and the Internet to find what you want
  • Menu Pod – A beautifully animated dynamic menu providing fast access to many powerful features

It retails for $29.99.  Here is the direct link to the Kinoma’s Play

Well, on my (dated) Palm Zire 71, Kinoma is a permanent resident. Kinoma has officially jumped into windows mobile arena by stepping into the Windows mobile standard AKA Smartphone market.

We are preparing a review of Kinoma Play! :D

HCL MILEAP MH 04 REVIEW – MSI Wind rebranded as HCL MiLeap MH 04 for India

HCL MILEAP MH 04 REVIEW

HCL has done it again. It will be making rebranding MSI Wind for Indian market. It will be having 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, and a 10.2 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display. The price will be Rs24,999($580).

  • I don’t know if the readers are aware of the fact that the HCL does not make any of the netbooks/UMPCs.
  • HCL just rebrands them.
  • MSI Wind is already available for Rs21000($490) in India
  • Often, HCL brags at various news conferences and advertisements that it is the maker of these devices!
  • MiLeap V, for instance, is just a rebranded Kohjinsha SH7. At the press conference, they said, “We have MADE this for Indian market”

My suggestion: If you want MSI Wind, get it directly. Not via HCL

StorageTools Reviewed – for Windows Mobile professional

StorageTools is a great application that lets you manage your storage cards and even perform de-fragmentation providing great speed improvements.

Windows Mobile OS is the most flexible mobile OS in the phone arena. Unfortunately, the file explorer that comes with the Windows mobile device is too basic when compared to it’s desktop counterpart. It does not offer any utility to manage the memory card of your device.

Fear not. StorageTools is there to rescue you. It has all the features you will ever need! Continue reading “StorageTools Reviewed – for Windows Mobile professional”

Acer Aspire One now with reduced price

Acer has reduced the price of it’s little baby, Acer Aspire One from $379 to $329. Acer is fully aware of the fact that the ASUS EEE 901 is way popular than the Aspire One. Perhaps, they want to make the competition more stiff by making the price more affordable again the EEE PC 901.

Smart move by the Acer to lure potential netbook owners

iPhone Launched in India and 7 Reasons not to buy it

Finally, the so-called Jesus Phone has been launched in India. I am talking about the iPhone 3G. Frankly speaking, I am TOTALLY not at all impressed by the carriers that are offering it.

First of all, before I start this ‘rant’, I want to make clear that all points given below are related and meant for the Airtel and Vodafone and not directing towards the Apple.

  • Outrageous prices: Prices are Rs 31000(US $711) for 8G version and Rs 36100 (US $827) for 16G version.
  • 3G is not available in India: Sadly, but true. Even though the main advantage of the iPhone 3G is the it’s ability to use the faster 3G network, you cannot use it as no Indian carrier offers it. There goes the main advantage out of window!
  • High GPRS rates: Vodafone rates are 5P/10kb! They are charging this much for the non-3G speeds?!
  • No unlimited plan: This is going to be the deal-breaker for many. With the excellent iPhone web browser, Safari, one can surf Desktop version of the websites rather the plain, mobile versions.
  • The iPhone being sold by Airtel and Vodafone is locked to the carriers. This means that you cannot use the SIM if you are not on the same network.
  • This is unfair as if one is paying above $700 for an iPhone, he should be getting an unlocked device considering the fact the iPhone 3G owner won’t be getting 3G
  • On Vodafone prepaid plan, you do not get any free data usage.

My suggestion: Get an unlocked iPhone from grey channels instead. It will be cheaper and unlocked to all networks
