EASY SMS for Windows Mobile released [Windows Mobile]

AIM Productions has released a FREE beta version of EASY SMS, a new Windows Mobile application that will provide you with a comfortable interface to send and receive SMS messages in all circumstances. Texting with the standard Windows Mobile SMS interface is not always very convenient. The text is very small and hard to read in many cases. Replying or sending a new text message by using the stylus and the tiny onscreen keyboard can be a real pain and is just impossible in situations where you don’t have both hands free. If you have been carrying around a Windows Mobile device for a while, this will definitely sound familiar to you.

Toshiba TG01 – Toshiba is back with it’s new 1GHz device! [Windows Mobile]

This is for those who thought the Toshiba is dead. True, their last few offering have not able to make a lot of splash in the mobile phone market, but the new Toshiba TG01 promises to break new grounds. With just 9.9mm thickness, a huge 4.1-inch display with a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution and the use of 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, it surely promises to give HTC and other handsets like iPhone a good competition.

Last time, the people were extrememly disappointed with the buggy-software of G900, which was the first WVGA Windows Mobile device. I hope the Toshiba would release a bug-free software for their new big baby, TG01.

On the software side, it promises flash websites as it claims to use Internet Explorer Mobile 6, which is not officially available for any handsets. Also, even the unofficial version of IE mobile 6 is unable to run any flash content nicely. You would barely get 3-5fps on a powerful device like HTC DIAMOND. But, considering the fact that the Toshiba TG01 sports a 1GHz processor, it may be a truly different story. We recently reviewed ASUS P565, which claimed to be world’s fastest PDA-phone. It surely turned out to be world’s fastest Windows Mobile phone. Why? This is due to the Windows Mobile OS. It would be interesting to see, how speedy the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU compared to the 800MHz Marvel PX930, which the ASUS P565 uses. [via engadget]

BYD Electronic going to manufacture Netbooks too [Netbook]

BYD Electronics, a huge company which manufactures manufactures and sells handset components to many cell phone companies including Nokia is now going to start producing  netbooks for the OEMs. However, it may use the R&D from TCL to give them a hand in producing netbooks.

BYD is now following the suit of many other netbook manufactures who previously used to produce only handsets and now have jumped into production of white-box netbooks for OEMs. Another interesting fact is that the Chinese netbook makers are able to drastically cut down the price of producing the mold cost of netbook from nearly $230,000 to mere $44,000.

BYD making netbooks for the OEMs is a great news for the netbook market, which can futher reduce the price of netbooks without much effect on quality. Future is getting even brighther for the netbook OEMs and of course, us – the consumers
