Looks like the rumors of DELL smartphone are up again. Ever since the DELL discontinued their Axim range, there have nearly a pile of rumors that DELL is working a smartphone. Most of these rumors were proved to be wrong, often by DELL’s spokesmen. But, this time Wall Street Journal is saying that DELL is now seriously coming to the Smartphone market.
This is what WSJ has to say:
Dell Inc., aiming to rev up sales as its mainstay personal computer business struggles in the recession, is preparing a move into cellphones as early as next month, said people familiar with the matter.
The Round Rock, Texas, company has had a group of engineers working on the phones for more than a year from an office in the Chicago area, these people said. They produced prototypes built on Google Inc.’s Android operating system and Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile software, these people said.
This means that the DELL is working on a device that can be running:
- Windows Mobile only
- Android only
- Or both Windows Mobile and Android. That is possible now. Take a look at Exeda which can dual boot by using U-bootloader. We can only speculate till DELL really comes up with something. What if DELL announces it’s new smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2009?
